Hi All
2010 is well under way, Things are happening in Iron Knob. OneSteel Whyalla Tours are kicking off in February, from Monday 15th February, you now have the opportunity to tour OneSteel Whyalla Steel Works. All our guides are well and truly trained for their role. If you want to see how OneSteel have improved their production, and how they have put many new environmental projects  into place then take the opportunity to do the tour.

There are many spectacular things to view and all from comfort of air-conditioned bus. Check web site for details or contact Whyalla Information Centre for Bookings.

IKPA (Iron Knob Progress Association) have been productive in receiving lots of grant funding from various organizations.

Community Projects from this funding.


Community Benefits have given us a grant to replace old playground, this is fantastic news for the kids in Iron Knob but also for travelers passing through our area as many have children and this gives then something to do while they rest up.

Open Space & Places for People Grant
In conjunction with Outback Area’s Community Development Trust and IKPA have joined forces to fund the following Project: Iron Knob Community Park. This project for Iron Knob will be a major boost for the improvement of the community park area, giving locals and travelers an area to bring their family have a relaxing BBQ and family outing. Also travelers have an area to rest after long trips reducing risk of injury. This continues with funding received from FRRR (Foundation for
Rural Regional Renewal) which assisted in building a bush kitchen with Heatlie 2 burner BBQ.

Also Iron Knob has just received a Community Voices Grant more information in next months issue.

To all the people that purchased a brick in the Iron Knob Wall of Honor for past and present members, finally a bricklayer has been found willing to travel to Iron Knob and commencing 8th February the wall will be built watch website for photo’s and progress.

As our Website heading reads “Preserving our Past and Forging our Future” Iron Knob is doing the best it can to achieve this with limited resources, all volunteers do many hours to achieve this, so I thank them all.
