MARCH UPDATE
It’s Official
OneSteel Whyalla plan opening Monarch Mine and Princess  Mine to be fully operational by 2012, at a well attended Community meeting held at Iron Knob Angie Stokes  and Don Dart representing OneSteel Whyalla  informed the people present of  area going to be mined, Don Dart explained OneSteel Whyalla would communicate with the community for the long term of all its operations within Iron Knob, All community groups would be informed of effects mining would have on their area and OneSteel Whyalla would consult with  these  groups to minimize the effects mining will have on the community. Also Don explained that the electric shovel on top of the Monarch Mine was a piece of Iron Knobs History and OneSteel Whyalla understand it's importance and would relocate it as a tourist attraction within Iron Knob.

Don Dart explained that it was at this stage a 10yr plan involving repairing the railway line from Whyalla to Iron Knob removing the problem of trucks carting ore to Whyalla.
This has put smiles on the faces of old timers in Iron Knob and I am sure past resident would think this was also good news for the community.
